One Man. A multitude of talents.
Bobby Jay was born and raised in New York's Harlem.
He grew up surrounded by music and people like Baby Washington,
Ben E King and Freddie Scott, his home patch included The Apollo,
Smalls Paradise, the Baby Grand and Minton's Playhouse.
After a period singing bass with The Laddins in the late 50's
Bobby the radio announcer emerged during a spell in the US Army.
He has hosted shows on WDIA - Memphis, WWRL & WCBS
- New York amongst others and is a former Billboard Magazine
Air Personality of the Year.
Bobby the actor appeared in the original off-Broadway production
of Leader of the Pack, on CBS TV's Guiding Light and numerous
stage shows.
Bobby the teacher and faculty member is found at the New School
University for Social Research in New York City.
Bobby is also a much-used and popular backing vocalist, jingle singer
and commercial voice-over.
And to top everything - Bobby pays live tribute to his mentor
by singing bass with 'Frankie Lymon's Legendary Teenagers'.
We're very glad Bobby squeezes 'Great Soul Performances' in his
busy schedule. Take a listen, it's well worth it.
